The Mission Submission Part 2

Today will be my last post of the year which ends this Saturday. But first, I would like to plug my best friend Charlie's site Terms of Enbeerment. It is a site dedicated to Quality beer, whether it be mass produced or not. He offers reviews of breweries, information on different styles of craft beers and he shares a behind the scenes look on the production on beer. Everything you ever wanted to know about one of the most bought products in the world today. Prepare to be amazed. Drink Quality, not Quantity.

Today, I'm continuing my picture post from Tuesday. The majority of these pictures today are from the two missions I spent a decent amount of time at, The incredibly haunted La Purisima Concepcion and Mission San Juan Capistrano.

La Purisima Concepcion is located in Lompac, CA. Its about a twenty minute drive off the 101 freeway at the exit for Buelton and Solvang. As one of the two missions owned by the State Parks division of the State of California, it was restored to its original look and feel and then made into a state historic site. This mission was more amazing then all of the other 15 I visited because it has a fully functional farm on the premesis as well as a natural well with a mini aqueduct going to the settlement.

I had a blast looking at the pigs in general. Both of them  were a trip because they had major character. Just make sure to stay away from the church and the living quarters, because they are supposedly haunted. I walked through them quickly so the ghosts wouldn't follow me home! Thanks to Susie for pointing the mission out to me before I went on my trip.

The other mission I visited was San Juan Capistrano. Its the closest to where I live in Anaheim. Just a short 30 minute ride down the 5 freeway. I was originally going to hit this one up on my trip to San Diego, but I have no clue when I'm going and I was bored on a Saturday. There is much to see here. The most interesting spot is the ruins of the old chapel. It was massive and impressive. When I develop my film, I have a good shot of whats left. You can see the outside of it in the picture below with the two bells. In the spring time, you can see the swallows as they return from their winter migration. A real great place to check out all around.

Does anybody have any recommendations on historic places for me to visit? Preferable in the states or the west coast area. I don't have a passport yet. :'-(

Take care and have a nice day!

Last post of the year? Are you gonna stop posting or does it mean your new posts will be of photos taken in 2013? So confused!

Suggestion: http://www.historichotels.org In their search criteria put in California. There are a few places round your parts you can check out. I think Inns and Hotels that are old or 'Historic' may yield some great pictures, maybe ghost stories and often they have a watering hole. ;) I might have to take my own advice and walk down to the "Historic Santa Maria Inn" for some photos. {It's supposedly haunted!}

Thanks for the shout-out glad I reminded you to take some salt. You got some great shots. I really love the reflection of the sky in the water. The pigs are cute too. Kids on the trip to the mission usually complain of the smell but it's not too bad. And on a field trip it's no quick run through the haunted spots. It's slow with a story to go along with it if you are part of a guided tour. The candle shot I really like, so rich!

Sorry for any confusion..... Well to be honest, I was trying to be mr funny guy so the confusion was intentional and I'm not too sorry. ;-) My one year anniversary is this sunday so in a way the year is up and the new one starts on sunday.

ooooh..... I totally forgot about the hotels. Natalie from Devil wears parsely was telling me about the mission inn hotel in downtown riverside and how photogenic the courtyard is over there. As of right now I am still going to be up in the central valley a week from tomorrow. I would like to check out that inn. I'm not afraid (I really am) of any ghosts. I would also like to go to Knapp's Castle, the gaviota wind tunnels and the architectural hike over by Cal Poly SLO as well as hitting up Firestone. I hope I have enough time to do all that in two days!

Was La Purisima the site of the now infamous "Field trip pushing"? If so..... I might have to be a bit weary if I ever go over there with you guys. o.0 Those pigs kept pestering me to take their picture. the first one almost called out to me and the 2nd one was jealous that I shot a pic of the first one. The reflection in the water was probably my favorite shot of all the ones above. I figured somebody would comment on that one since it was such a different one than the rest.
You should have enough time to cover it all. At least I think so haha. What does your schedule look like, wouldn't mind meeting up for a hike.

And the field trip was a visit to Cal poly to see their ag fields. You are safe.

I've been thinking about it and the only thing I am doing for sure is going to Firestone and Solvang. I need to make a list of all the stuff I want to visit while I'm there and then see how long they will take. I'll probably end up revisiting some of the missions since I mostly rushed through them. I dont need to rush this time. as far as I know currently, I'm going to be leaving here ass early on thursday. probably around 5 or 6 in the morning so I don't have to deal with traffic. I'm also thinking about hitting up a mission about an hour up from firestone so that might be my first day. Rush up to the mission and hit firestone on my way back around lunch time and then stop somewhere between SLO and santa maria.

What hike would you like to do, cause I can do any one of them.
Which Firestone are you planning on going to?

Since I am local I am up for any hike. So pick the one that you are dying to try and I am down to hit that no problem. Nojoqui falls is just south of Solvang and the turn off is on the north bound of the 101. If you are looking for something up north closer to SLO there is the Bob Jones Trail that is just south of SLO you take the Avila Beach exit. Google them and see what looks good or check out the list of ones you want to do and pick your fave.

How about this one? Its a couple miles long and it looks like real fun!
http://www.hikespeak.com/trails/gaviota-wind-cave...

My co worker used to live in slo and told me about the Bob Jones trail so I might check that one out as well.
I want to go to Nojoqui falls also, but it looks like a really short walk.

I'm probably going to go to the Firestone brewery up in paso robles and see if I can do the tour up there. I'll preobably end up checking out the taproom in Buelton as well. If I'm going to solvang then it wont be too far off the path. Maybe we can go over there after we do the hike.
I have been wanting to check out the wind caves. Let me know what day and time you plan on going and I will meet you for the hike. Sounds fun!

We can play it by ear where to we the whistle after the hike.

Wow, some great pics but the real stand out for me is the one of the candles in the jars!

Oh, Thank you! I thought it would be a good one just standing over them. I wonder what would have happened if I blew them out,,,,,,,,,, "accidentally"? o.0
You get to make a wish!
No recommendations for historical places, but once the weather warms up a bit, head to Oregon and check out the Columbia River Gorge and Cannon Beach on the Coast. Portland is awesome as well, but more as a place to live ;)

I want to get up there sometime. I really want to hit some real forests. I think I'll wait for fall and for the multicolors. I probably wouldn't mind living up there either. Well maybe except for the winter time. I love wearing shorts down here.
