Orange County Fair

Everybody probably  knows by now, but if you don't I live in Orange County, CA. As a matter of fact, just a 2 minute drive down the freeway from Disneyland. If you live anywhere in the US, you've probably  come across the county fair. Since I don't live in the midwest or in some rural area, it is not as big of a deal, but it sure is still a fun place to come to every once in awhile.

Here in Orange County, ours starts in the middle of July and ends in the middle of August, followed by the Los Angeles County Fair that runs in September at Fairplex in Pomona. I think my last time here at the fair was in the early 2000s when I came with one of my parents. I wasn't really sure what to expect even though I had an idea of what it was like. My best friend and I met up with some of his acquaintances and had a couple of drinks before I took off on my own for a photo shooting spree.

I've been lacking on adding my pictures to the map so you might have an idea of where I went. I fixed this for next weeks set of pictures.

Used to live right down the road from the fairgrounds and went often as a kid. Some great pics, but how about various people stuffing their faces with corn dogs? You know, different facial expressions, different mustard/ketchup messes on their grills?... Gotta break out the telephoto zoom for the spy shots, but would probably be fun...

Just watching people shoving that crazy food into their mouths sounds fairly entertaining. My god, the amount of food booths that were set up was extreme. I wish I payed more attention, because I missed most of the places that had the weird food like the deep fried butter, but i did walk past the GIANT turkey leg stand and the bacon wrapped hotdog stand. The LA county fair is coming up next month so I might have another opportunity.
I don't know what the fu*k "The Hangar" is but I wan't in..IN!!!

The Hangar was their Free concert venue. They had a shitty Depeche Mode coverband playing there. It was hilarious because they singer was going crazy on stage as if he were some weird dejected, or maybe rejected, wannabe Henry Rollins.
Moscow circus?? Snaaazzy!

Very cute llama. :)

That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. I think what made it even better were the lights that were burned out. It gave it an even more "This is from Mother Russia" kinda vibe. xD
I live about a 2 minute walk from my front door to the side entrance for the Santa Barbara County Fair Grounds. I used to go every year but as I have aged and those around me have, I don't go as often. My primary reason to go is to walk through the booths drinking beer and then once I catch a decent buzz I ride the death trap machines. I LOVE those scary death trap rides. I have never been to the OC or LA fairs but I think I may enjoy it. Around these parts we have more of an agricultural community so ours lasts about a week and the first part of the week is mostly open to FFA and 4H, general admission is Thursday through Sunday. Have you been to the Midstate Fair in Paso Robles? That one is pretty fun too but it's kind of a tedious drive if you go during the weekend.

Yeah, your fair is kinda like ours down here. Its really big for the 4h. I had a buddy growing up that did the 4h club. I walked around with several beers that night. Thankfully there was a booth that sold the good stuff like Red Hook Longhammer. Its one of my most faves. I haven't really been up in your neck of the woods in about 15 years. I'm actually thinking of taking the amtrak up to Goleta sometime soon.
I was gonna ask if you had any of that Longhammer IPA since I saw you took a picture of it. Maybe one day we can do a blog meet up, sad thing is most people I interact with in the blog world are across the ocean :p
Hey that would be alot of fun. You're coming down here in a couple of months right?
Yes, end of October. Not sure for how many days yet. My brother in law is getting married so I am sure we are going to spend a few days down there.
