How Large Format Cameras are Made

I Still Shoot Film posted an excellent video from YouTube showing the construction of a large format camera. These are the type of cameras that serious photographers use to get the best resolution possible when it comes to shooting products, landscapes and studio portraits.

I posted the video below, but you should check out I Still Shoot Film's website as they have awesome pictures made by people who, obviously, only use film and don't edit or post produce with a computer when it's scanned.

Sweet vid! I always found large format cameras to look impressive and one day I will touch one. I really hate it when I snap a picture and the subject is a small object I want to enlarge but the dang thing ends up blurry or pixelated because I don't do large format.

Its incredible working with one in a studio where you can just shove the lens damn near on top of a subject and be able to get it rediculously sharp! And not just one spot like the eyes with regular portrait shots, Almost the entire subject if you are good enough. Damn, I just had a weird deja vu moment. Same time and same day of the week. Scary! :-)
Oh you should totally write about it. I find deja vu to be really cool! I haven't had one of those moments in quite sometime and I miss it.
I actually have them quite frequently. but this was my first one since the beginning of July. I should start up another blog like yours and just have it about my personal experiences in life. I used to find myself quite boring, but I recently realized that my life is far from it. Some by my design, and most not. I have some weird ones like a transvestite I sat next to on the bus on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Now, you gave me a damn good Idea. I really hope you dont ask for royalties or a finders fee of some sort for all of the excellent ideas you've given me over the past few months. ;-)
Nah, as long as you keep sharing your photos and funny blog stories when that blog becomes a reality that will suffice.
My recent post Paying top dollar to be a corporate billboard.
DIY, eh? Gotta make sure that no light seeps in through the bellows, I suppose!

I know right? I remember seeing portfolios of some professionals last spring where they actually did odd stuff with their bellows to get different effects. I don't think anybody added holes, but one guy threw a bunch of junk from his yard in there, like leaves, grass, dirt, and ants, in to kind of silhouette the scene a bit. Very weird and goofy looking.
